Who is "JD& Co" !!!!

I have aquired a teapot which I assume is made of pewter rather than silver.
(how do you tell one from the other?)
It has "JD&Co" stamped on the base. I have been trying to find out who this maker is and also find pics to compare patterns for confirmation.
Can anyone please help out a newbie?
