Elephant Howda valuations

My mother has what was described as an Elephant Howda whcih was brought to the US in a steamer trunk by her great uncle in 1829. The article is made of sequins on a thick wool or felt backing. The article hasa an elephant in each of the 4 corners and a peacock in the center. It is very heavy, leading me to believe that some of the sequins might be madee of precious metals.

If anyone can help direct me to a site where I might see such an item and/or point me to a reputable appraiser, preferrably in Maine, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Ray Dudley
