Silver?

For years I have watched some items tarnish that belonged to my grandmother and my mother. The ones that interest me most belonged to my grandmother and are both engraved with 'Lucy' (her name) A small round plate approximately 5 1/2" diameter marked Poole Silver Company 762 and a pitcher approximately 5 1/2" tall with a hinged top with the same markings. It had to be either purchased by her or given to her in the very early 1900's. What I need to know is if it is worth having professionally cleaned up. I'd like to make it a gift to my oldest grandchild. But I'd like to tell her something about it, as well.
