Military Campaign Bed?

[ Follow Ups ] [ Emporium Antiques Forum ] [ FAQ ]

Posted by Helen Bishop on August 13, 2000 at 16:01:02:

I have a piece of furniture that on immediate inspection looks like a chest/table when not in use (approx h 18" w 36" d 12"), and becomes a bed when extended. The supporting legs of the bed are crossed pieces of wood with heavy/durable webbing material forming the matress, and the chest/table top forming the headboard. The wood appears to be oak(?).

Does anyone have any ideas as to what it is, its age, and what it was used for? (It was suggested to me that it could have been a military campaign bed, but I have no evidence to substantiate this.)
