Would suggest they are production marks and refer to the mold used, the worker etc.

Suggest you contact Sheffield Archives and see if they can help

It could be EPNS but I can not find a mark that matches what you describe there fore could be pewter and I have no knowledge of that.

James Dixon's EPNS usually had a trumpet mark after 1879 so perhaps your piece is earlier. It could be a coffee/hot water jug especially with the cane handle.
